Chennai: Hospitals to intensify anti dengue measures
Chennai: Government hospitals have stepped up additional initiatives in a bid to control dengue outbreak after Health Minister said that the rise in the number of dengue cases will be controlled within 15 days.
Apart from regular monitoring of dengue patients and treating all fever patients as dengue patients, the government hospitals have formed dengue intensive care units.
“Intensive care unit has been set up to monitor the severe cases of dengue and it is being monitored by a supervising medical officer. Apart from providing regular medicines and Nilavembu Kudineer in the fever ward, we are providing mosquito nets, treated and boiled drinking water and ORS solutions for the patients in the unit to prevent the infection,” said supervising medical officer at Rajiv Gandhi General Government Hospital.
He added that hospitals are carrying out blood tests twice a day to monitor the situation of the patients, while dengue desk set up in the hospital premises are distributing pamphlets to create awareness among people against dengue.
Corporation has also intensified its efforts, with awareness campaigns and distribution of Nilavembu Kasayam in schools. Students are also volunteering for anti dengue campaigns with an aim to destroy dengue mosquito growth cycle within a time period of three weeks.
When contacted, officials at the public health department said that the situation would be controlled soon as the treatment is being undertaken adequately.
“More than 25,000 health workers, which include doctors, sanitary inspectors and field workers, are carrying out various measures to control dengue. Health workers have been deployed to keep a check on domestic breeding of dengue, so people should ensure that there is no stagnation in their locality,” said public health director, K Kolandaisamy.
