Pakistani baby with baseball size lump receives life-saving surgery
Doctors performed life-saving surgery on a Pakistani baby born with a lump the size of a baseball.
Muhammad Hussain Baksh was born with a deadly condition called hydrocephalus, where fluid builds up inside the skull, according to the Daily Mail. This caused his head to grow at an abnormal rate.
The condition made it uncomfortable to sleep or and made it difficult for his mother to feed him. "People would stare at him as if he was a ghost baby. As a mother it was devastating," Baksh's mother Gulab Jan is quoted as saying in the Daily Mail.
On June 1, Muhammad was admitted to the Liaquat National Hospital for the operation, media reports reveal. Thankfully, the surgery was a successes and surgeons drained one litre of fluid from his skull and restored his head to a normal size.
Baby Muhammad also responded well to treatment and was discharged from hospital 24 hours after the operation. His parents Muhammad Usman and Gulab are thrilled that Muhammad can lead a normal life like his three siblings.
