Bengaluru: Florists, gift shops all set for Valentine Day

Gift shops have also come out with exclusive offers for the big day.

Bengaluru: With the people celebrating Valentine's Day tomorrow, florists and gift shops are getting ready for the big day. While the classic red roses are still the first choice, couples are moving on to chocolate bouquets as well.

“We usually order extra red roses this month every year. Red roses will always be a classic on Valentine’s Day. Couples go for roses in various colours, but the most orders around this time of the year are for red rose bouquets. Chocolate bouquets are another special order in recent years,” said Ms Anikta Jhunjhunwala, manager at the Koramangala outlet of Ferns and Petals. The sales reach about 250 bouquets on the February 14 in this one store alone, she said.

Though Valentine’s Day is dominated by young couples gifting each other flowers and chocolates as a token of love, there are also orders that are exclusively for parents, says Mr Sameer Mandal, another local florist. “On Valentine’s Day, some people gift bouquets to their parents. The choice of flowers is not necessarily red. They go for white, yellow, pink roses and also lilies.”

This year, the younger generation has also taken to greeting cards as compared to chocolates as they are more personal and heartfelt, he said. Gift shops have also come out with exclusive offers for the big day.
