How has Oxfam Trailwalker inspired you and why is it important for corporates to take part?

Biren Ghose: The power of a ‘movement’ lies in the fact that it can indeed bring about a positive change in the thinking, disposition and the habits of people. This change cannot be the result of a rule based force, but an outcome of encouragement, dedication and an honest persuasion. The Oxfam Trailwalker is a great way to do this.

In the last year, you got 98 teams from Technicolor to participate - how do you manage to convince people to give their time and money to this walkathon, what plans this year?

Biren Ghose: Positive persuasion has a much better influence over the team’s behaviours than any formal structure or mandate!

Have you seen Oxfam Trailwalker making a difference to your employees - how and why?

Biren Ghose: People usually find a tremendous realisation themselves and are more convinced by what they learn through self-discovery than by advice and instructions from others.

Why do you encourage your employees to join the Trailwalker?

Biren Ghose: I believe that the will of the people is made stronger by enlightened leadership! Even where there is free choice, people look up to leadership they trust and like those leaders, they too acquire the traits of influence and persuasion. Our company demonstrates this dynamic at Oxfam Trailwalker events; where leaders set expectations by example and encouragement.
