Lal lives on in four by donating vital organs
KOCHI: The 52-year old Lal, from Pangad in Thrissur, could give his vital organs to four persons before he departs. Lal’s family members have decided to donate his organs when doctors declared him brain dead after seriously injured in a road accident. Lal, a business man was seriously injured when the bike he was traveling collided with a car at Mathilkam, near Thrissur on Sunday afternoon. He was brought to Aster Medcity in a very critical condition. He was declared brain dead by doctors on Tuesday morning. As his immediate family members expressed interest, procedures for organ donation were started.
His liver and one kidney have been transplanted to patients under treatment at Aster Medcity. One Kidney was sent to a patient at Medical College, Kottayam while the cornea was given to Giridhar Eye Hospital, Kochi. Lal was an active member of Accident Care and Transport Service (ACTS), a voluntary service organisation of Thrissur. Even in his untimely death he could serve the noble cause he always believed in by donating vital organs. His wife Smitha is an employee of Kerala State Financial Enterprises, Kodungalloor and daughter Keerthana is a Plus One student. The multiple transplant surgeries were led by Dr Rajeev Lochan and Dr. Naushif of integrated liver care department at Aster Medcity, anesthesiology consultants Dr Nisha. A and Dr Sangeeth P.S.
