Lifestyle coach Luke Coutinho speaks on importance of good health and sound sleep and his love for the city of Chennai.

A Holistic Lifestyle Coach in Integrative Medicine, Luke Coutinho, the globally renowned and award-winning holistic nutritionist is in Chennai this weekend. He has also co-authored the bestseller ‘The Great Indian Diet’ with actress Shilpa Shetty.

“A holistic approach is all about working towards healing the body as a whole and not a part of the body or disease in isolation”, says Luke. Our holistic approach relies heavily on 4 pillars of lifestyle: Balanced Nutrition, Adequate exercise/movement, Quality sleep and emotional detoxification. Every patient is different and has different dietary needs. Luke addresses the root cause and works towards healing that. It looks at “healing” rather than “treating”.

According to Luke, emotion affects every cell of the body in the right or wrong way. “We use food and lifestyle, with a strong focus on emotional health, in an integrative manner with doctors, to help children and adults deal with lifestyle and disease-related issues”. Sleep is essential

“Eat smart” is more of a flexible way of eating in a way that personalized according to one’s lifestyle and at the same time its dynamic. “This way of eating doesn’t call for any deprivation or cutting down any specific food (it’s different in case of a medical condition though), but knowing how to moderate and balance”, explains Luke.

“Sleep is the best, natural and legal performance-enhancing drug”, says Luke. “But it’s also about the quality of sleep one gets. The magic occurs only during deeper stages of the sleep cycle.”

On being in Chennai again“I love the level of awareness amongst people in Chennai on nutrition. He will be in the city on September 18 at ITC Grand Chola.
