Loss of sleep to noise can hurt routine
Hyderabad: Sleeplessness and disturbed sleep are the most common complaints emerging from the medical history of patients who have sought treatment for dementia. Those living next to major roads in the city need to exercise caution and must check if their choice of location hurts sleep at night.
The lack of sleep is also one of the major reasons for continued fatigue, lack of co-ordination and general dizziness.
Neurologist Dr K. Rama Prasad said that loud noise often “hampers the sleeping pattern and leads to irritation in sleep”.
“Some people are very sensitive to sound and even the slightest noise affects them. Such people — who are sensitive — must ensure that they develop good sleep hygiene. Often patients disclose this aspect in the last stages of the medical investigation.”
Irregular sleep patterns or sleeping for less than four hours is detrimental to health in the long run. Behavioural changes, such as acting impulsively, may be seen over a period of time. Short-term memory loss may not be due to fatigue as we often believe but may be a signal given by the brain that it needs help.
