Study discovers why most babies are conceived during winter
A new study investigating the link between seasonal changes and conception explains why most babies are conceived during Christmas.
According to the research, improved sperm quality and ovum receptivity is one of the reasons, The Independent reported.
Rise in sexual activity during winter is the second reason.
"Increased sexual activity associated with end-of-year holiday festivities has also been postulated as a possible behavioural explanation for the December peak in conceptions," the study stated in the report.
Even though media reports state that twice as many condoms are sold around this time, many people will engage in unprotected sex, the study found
"These data highlight the fact that seasonally related social events may increase levels of sexual activity, decrease the likelihood that it will be protected and limit access to services," researchers of the study further explained.
