Study reveals how air pollution is capable of making people fat

By the age of ten children exposed to pollution were found to be heavier than those who were breathing clean air.

Air pollution is a major cause for concern across the globe with residents in major cities facing health hazards because of it. But in addition to causing respiratory issues among other health conditions, air pollution may also be linked to obesity which plagues a large number of people.

Findings of a new research have indicated that toxins in the air may be making people fat. By the age of ten children exposed to pollution were found to be heavier than those who were breathing clean air.

This shows that we may be putting on extra weight every day simply by breathing. It may be happening because of inflammatory reactions triggered in the body by inhaling irritant particles.

Pollutants irritate air sacs in the lungs causing stress response that leads to release of hormones. Because of this the body’s ability to absorb energy from food decreases leaving blood sugar levels unstable.

This instability triggers fluctuations in appetite causing people to over eat.
