Punarjani restores hospital equipment
Kozhikode: 60 students of the Vadakara College of Engineering under the National Service Scheme (NSS) have restored Rs 20 lakh worth of equipment at Vadakara government district hospital into functional mode. The defunct equipment was dumped for long without being repaired. The one-week camp of the ‘Punarjjani’ programme of the NSS under the technical education department which concluded on Monday, infused new life into the defunct biomedical, electrical and electronic equipment as well as furniture at the hospital.
“We have a list of equipment to be rectified besides painting cots, cleaning and other activities. Rs 20 lakh worth assets were identified,” said NSS programme officer K.P Mafeed. Among the volunteers, Chaithanya, Arjun, Biji Thomas and Sreelakshmi had got training for repairing biomedical equipment at the NSS camp held in Palakkad. The repaired equipment includes stabilizer, thermometer, examination table at the operation theatre, needle cutter, nebulisers, BP apparatus, furniture like delivery cot, surgical cot, drip stand, trolley, wheelchairs and computers.
Volunteer secretaries, Arjun Nambiar and Aishwarya led the camp. “The Punarjjani camp is a great help because of the noble cause behind it. Apart from repairing equipment that has been gathering dust in the hospital, it is also a wonderful experience for the students,” said the hospital superintendent Dr V.K Ali.
