Epileptic Sainik School Kazhakoottam student is out of danger
Thiruvananthapuram: Kunal Kumar, a seventh-grade student from Bihar at Sainik School Kazhakoottam who developed epileptic fits during swimming training on Monday, is out of danger. It is alleged that the child had not informed of his health condition in advance to SSK authorities during the admission process. SSK principal Col. A. Rajiv said a false news is being circulated with a deliberate intention of tarnishing school's image.
Kumar had an epileptic encounter in the midst of swimming classes on Monday evening. School authorities informed DC that he was immediately administered first aid by the National Institute of Sports Patiala qualified swimming coach. They then rushed him to a nearby private hospital at Kazhakoottam and from there to KIMS hospital where doctors admitted him to the paediatric ICU.
“His parents in Bihar were informed, and they reached the hospital the next day itself. The parent has now disclosed an earlier hidden fact that he was on long term medication for epilepsy. We recovered 170 tablets of Carbox 300 (to be taken two per day) kept hidden in his hostel room,” said Col. Rajiv. Kumar is out of danger and shifted to the room. He is most likely to be discharged on Friday. “It was the prompt action by the school that had ensured that there had been no telling effect on the child,” said a senior SSK teacher.
