Trust most important in doctor-patient relation: Study
Hyderabad: Errors caused by medical fraternity requires a detailed explanation to patients and their relatives according to a American Medical Association Code of Ethics which is now being evaluated by senior doctors of Indian Medical Association to understand the deteriorating doctor-patient relationship.
The opinion in AMA states that professionals must admit responsibility for the error they commit. The physicians must offer a general explanation regarding the nature of the error and the measures which were being taken to prevent it. Such a communication is fundamental to trust in the doctor-patient relationship and helps to reduce the risk of liability. If the doctor patient relationship has to improve, it is important that the patient’s family must also understand that there are risks and that can be fatal too.
