Air pollution leads to immoral behaviour: Study
A new study has found that air pollution increases the chances of people cheating or committing crimes.
Exposure to such air triggers unethical behaviour and makes us more anxious, the Daily Mail reported.
Columbia Business School researchers came to this conclusion after reviewing nine years worth of data on air pollution and crimes in 9,360 American cities.
Cities with high levels of crime were shown to have high levels of pollution.
Their investigation found "particulate matter, carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, sulfur dioxide, ground-level ozone and lead," were some of the major pollutants the report stated.
"This research reveals that air pollution may have potential ethical costs that go beyond its well-known toll on health and the environment, " study author Dr Jackson Lu told the Daily Mail reported.
Adding, "This is important because air pollution is a serious global issue that affects billions of people - even in the United States, about 142 million people still reside in counties with dangerously polluted air."
