Men, here's how you save your sperm

A study led by Hebrew University-Hadassah Braun School of Public Health and Community Medicine in Jerusalem recently claimed that the human race might be facing extinction due to dropping sperm count in men.

The study revealed that Sperm counts in men from America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand have dropped by more than 50 percent in less than 40 years.

 

While the decrease continues, and modern living is being blamed for the drop, we list was in which men could keep their little swimmers active and thriving.

Keep your phone in your pocket: A study conducted by the University of Newcastle in Australia found that people who leave their mobile in their trouser pockets affect sperm production due to the radiations being emitted from the phone. A study conducted in Israel went on to add that that heat and radiation from phones end up ‘cooking’ sperm.

Riding a bicycle, not that good: A Spanish study found that cyclists who pedal for more than 186 miles per week have just four per cent normal-shaped sperm. The number is 26 per cent less than the normal range for fathering a child.

Going to bed naked: According to the US National Institute of Child Health and Human Development airing the testicles at night keeps them cool and helps sperm thrive.

Say not skinny jeans: Researchers from Sheffield University say that wearing roomier pants give sperm a boost. Skinny jeans that are too tight could cut off the blood and oxygen supply to sperms thus killing them.

Keep your laptop on the desk: A study published in the journal of the Brazilian Society of Urology found that the heat ­generated by laptops when they are being used can damage sperm quality and impact on sperm count.

Say no to smoke and booze: Smoking lowers sperm counts by up to 30 per cent, according to the journal European Urology. Another study written about in the BMJ Open journal found five units per week of alcohol – less than two pints – reduces sperm quality.

Exercise daily: Harvard researchers have found that men who work out have 33 percent higher sperm count that those who don't. This is because exercising helps burn fat while boosting testosterone
