Tamil Nadu: Healthcare improves after e-services go up

Fiscal report for 2011-12 to 2016-17 reveals that maternity services and health care has improved in last five years.

Chennai: After several e-health initiatives introduced by the health department in the state, maternity services and health care has improved in last five years, reveals fiscal report for 2011-12 to 2016-17 by Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC).

The report says that PHCs are well equipped for maternity care in 14 community care centres, three maternity hospitals and 138 Primary Health Centres (PHCs) in all zones of the GCC.

The report highlighted various advancements in maternity health care in the last five years in the city. Besides the availability of basic treatment for various diseases including typhoid, malaria, dengue, breast cancer and diabetes at PHCs, pregnant women registered themselves online and availed maternity care services using the Pregnancy Infant Cohort Monitoring and Evaluations (PICME) number.

The registrations were made through the non-emergency medical number, 102 increasing the accessibility of maternity care services in all localities. 2.5 crore-cancer patients underwent treatment at government hospitals, while 84,004 deliveries were carried out in the city, says the report.

Health department officials say that usage of disposable LSCS delivery kit, video laparoscopy and Sono mammogram has eased the provision of medical services for pregnant women.
