Light walking gives relief
Hyderabad: Those who suffer from severe arthritis, foot and toe deformities, knee and back pain must opt for light walking exercises which will ensure that their body and mind remain active. Light walking will give the required activation for the muscles.
Dr N. Somasekhar Reddy, senior consultant orthopaedic surgeon at Apollo Hospitals, said, “Knee pains are very common these days. Early osteoarthritic and advanced osteoarthritis changes in the knee joints also cause knee pains. For this reason, it is important that appropriate footwear be used while walking.”
He said that it was not right for people to walk in slippers or sandals. “Some of them require special footwear due to their orthopaedic conditions and foot issues,” Dr Reddy said.
Back pain is one of the most important excuses which is seen in clinical presentations. Dr B.B. Rao, senior orthopaedic surgeon, said “Back pain is caused by wrong posture in sitting and when the abdominal muscles are weak.” He said belts and corsets were available to support patients experience back pain.
“The patient is asked to opt for physiotherapy to help deal with the pain and then opt for simple and light walking which will ensure that they are active,” Dr Rao said.
Those who continue to have serve back pain are recommended to walk in the swimming pool as it ease them of stress. Doctors say minimal exercise is important in this group so that their body continues to be active which will work in therapeutic manner for them.
