Doctors discover unusual cause that makes 2-year-old suffer stroke
Parents of a two-year-old girl who suffered a stroke want to bring awareness that it can also affect children.
Amy Martin and Alex Johnson thought their daughter Lexi was suffering a dead leg when she complained of pain, according to The Sun. But, when they noticed their daughter's speech become slurred and face droop they rushed her to the hospital.
The couple from Billingham, were shocked to learn Lexi suffered a stroke. The first sign of is, was when the toddler started walking funny. They laughed it off thinking she "had a dead leg", the report added. Doctors discovered a blood clot in Lexi’s brain that was not allowing her to receive oxygen. More tests showed the stroke was caused by the “blood vessels around her brain being too narrow".
After the stroke, the child's right side was weakened and she had to use her left hand to write. The stroke also affected her speech and she had to learn talking again. Amy and Alex's little girl is now three, doesn't remember much about what she faced at such a young age.
The Stroke Association reveals childhood stroke affects around five in every 100,000 kids a year.
