Snap Health: Medical records in your palm

After voice box, city oncologist launches app to help patients.

Bengaluru: After a truly 'Make in India' attempt to give throat cancer patients a voice box, city's head and neck surgeon Dr Vishal Rao of HCG now has his eyes set on medical records.

“We have developed an app to help mainly rural and also urban patients improve health records maintenance. A common problem faced in the country when a patient meets a medical practitioner is forgetting one’s medical records,” says Dr Rao.

He has developed the app, Snap Health, along with Sreeju Kamath, an engineer and mobile app developer. The project is part of f Design Oncology Thinking Group @ Hcg Oncology, a platform created for creative sharing.

Dr Rao said, “Through this app, you can take a snap of health records and it does the rest. It stores the records, helps you fill details if you need to and shares it with your doctor through cloud too. It automatically syncs with your cloud account.”

The app has been released on Google Play Store. "We will launch the the iOS version shortly. With mobile phone penetration increasing and healthcare a growing concern, health record archiving is critical. This app helps to improve healthcare delivery through a simple, innovative and effective approach for rural and urban India," Dr Rao said.

“There are several applications available for medical records. Most are focused on healthcare providers. We wanted to focus on patients and assist in record maintenance across all social strata," he said.

The duo is now developing a more advanced version of the app with some exclusive features.
