Woman sues doctor for leaving metal tool in her body for 11 weeks

She was repeatedly told that she only had a minor infection and was sent back with a prescription for antibiotics.

A woman is planning to drag her gynaecologist to court after finding out that she had left a two-inch-long metal object inside her body after a routine procedure. What is even more frightening is that the tool remained in the patient’s body for 11 weeks before it was finally removed.

Three months ago, Michelle Doig-Collins underwent a routine uterus exam at the hands of Dr Ann Raffo, her ob-gyn at Orange Coast Women's Medical Group in Laguna Hills, California. However, she started suffering severe cramps and nausea upon returning home. Although she went back to the clinic thrice, she was repeatedly told that she only had a minor infection and was sent back with a prescription for antibiotics, reports KTLA.

Eleven weeks later when she was in the bathroom, she felt a metal probe while using the toilet paper. Her husband immediately took her to ER where an X-ray report showed that she had a two-inch-long metal stick near the tip of her uterine cannula. It was part of the long metal contraption gynecologists use to examine a woman's uterus. The couple is now aiming to drag Dr Raffo and her employer to court for damages.
