Eat fatty fish to lose weight and live longer
Let us just put it simply. To lose weight, eat fatty fish. Grilled, not fried.
Mirror cites research in Japan that suggests that fish oil from mackerel, salmon, tuna, sardines and other fatty fish can melt away fat.
The credit goes to omega-3 fats in fish oil that turn bad fat cells to healthy ones which burn calories “like a furnace”.
The study reveals there are two types of body fat – white and beige. The white kind stores the extra fat to fill out our bodies in all the wrong places. The beige kind actually burn off calories.
The study says fish oil converts the white fat cells into the beige ones. It is important to remember here that the number of beige fat celss begins to fall one we hit middle age.
Mirror quotes study author Teruo Kawada saying: “We knew from previous research that fish oil has tremendous health benefits, including the prevention of fat accumulation. We tested whether fish oil and a rise in beige cells was related.”
There is another great benefit of eating fish and getting your omega-3s – you live longer, says Mirror. Those who eat more fish, live longer, research has proved.
Researchers said: “People have long said that food from Japan and the Mediterranean contributes to longevity, but why these cuisines are beneficial was up for debate. Now we have better insight into why that may be.”
Omega-3 fats have other benefits too – they control blood pressure and helps slow Alzheimer’s disease.
