Experts claim love can make you fat
There are many things love makes you do, but did you know that it makes you fat? Experts claim it does.
Within the first year of marriage, newlyweds gain up to five pounds, Dr Catherine Hankey, a senior lecturer in nutrition at the University of Glasgow, told The Independent
One reason could be due to that fact mealtimes become the focal point of couples' lives. They may encourage each other to eat more, while they move around less.
Dr Hankey warns this is becoming an issue with the rise in obesity rates soaring. "This is a huge cultural issue," she told The Times. Adding, "Becoming obese is bad for self-esteem and can damage relationships too."
Previous research has also found that the more happy couples are, the more weight they tend to gain within two years of the relationship married or not.
A study by the Southern Methodist University (SMU) also revealed people let themselves go often because maintaining one's weight “is motivated primarily by the desire to attract a mate”, the report stated.
Interestingly researchers have also found couples who were not happy maintained their weight.
