Kerala: No Nipah virus cases today too

Two positive cases have been recuperating at KMCH with both tested negative.

KOZHIKODE: Heaving a sign of relief, the continuous fourth day has passed without a single positive case of Nipah being reported. Five new suspected cases got admitted at Kozhikode Medical College hospital (KMCH) on Monday taking the total suspected to 24. Results of 17 samples received on Monday were negative. Till now, 244 sample results had been received of which 226 turned out to be negative and 18 positive, which includes the 16 dead. Two positive cases have been recuperating at KMCH with both tested negative.

The data excludes the death of index case, Mohammad Sabith, whose sample was not collected. The contacts under observation have soared to 2379, adding 297 more. People who come under 70 local bodies in the district are under observation and food kit would be delivered to their home, said district collector U.V Jose. A kit will contain groceries for two weeks. Authorities have set June 11 as the deadline to watch out for new cases.

"Balusserry, Mukkam areas are under close observation as some of the deceased had undergone treatment at the hospitals there," said District medical officer Dr V Jayashree. Meanwhile, the team from the National Institute of Epidemiology, Chennai said that they have to start from scratch regarding the tracing of the virus sourc..Experts from ICMR have taught the treatment protocol for monoclonal antibody drug which was brought from Australia.
