Nutrition a priority at the upcoming Oxfam Trailwalker in Bengaluru

Healthy and nutritious food will be provided for close to 2400 people over two days.

For all the fitness enthusiasts in Bangalore this weekend, one of India’s biggest walkathons and fitness-fundraising events – Oxfam Trailwalker India – is round the corner, from February 7 - 9. To provide nutritious and walkathon appropriate food for every participant in the Trailwalker, Oxfam Trailwalker India has associated with a popular food chain in the city for the second time as their food partner.

They will be providing meals to almost 2400 people over the two days and have a team of 400-500 chefs ready to get going. In accordance with Oxfam India’s environmental values, the restaurant is also known for biodegradable packaging, providing wooden cutlery and reducing environmental waste.

Participants will be provided all three meals at different checkpoints on February 7 and 8 for a nominal charge. Oxfam Trailwalker has also given the option to pre-book the meals online through their website. They will serve nutritious vegetarian food that will keep the teams satiated and on their toes. With a detailed menu including a balanced representation of carbohydrates, protein and fats through fruits, rice, roti and vegetables, Oxfam India is ensuring all elements of the Trailwalker are well taken care of.

“Our food partner, which is a Bengaluru based popular food chain, has also supported us in the previous edition. We are glad that this year too they will help us provide quality food to everyone including the participants, support staff and Oxfam India family. We take utmost care of the health requirements of all those part of Oxfam Trailwalker,” said Leena Goel, Head, Oxfam Trailwalker India.

In Bengaluru, the trail will start from the edge of a beautiful valley in the Nandi Hills. It passes through more than 30 villages, from Sultanpet to Olde Bangalore Resort. Plantations of grapes, vegetables and flowers dot the picturesque landscape and will make for a beautiful experience for every participant. In 2018-2019, around 1600 people from all across India walked 100km (or 50km) for an equal world. Oxfam Trailwalker India is also the biggest team fundraising event in India. Last year, people raised over 5 crores to contribute towards Oxfam India's projects on education, health, gender, forest rights and discrimination in the six poorest states of India (Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha and Uttar Pradesh).

Oxfam Trailwalker is the world's greatest team challenge to overcome poverty and inequality. Teams of four walk 100 km in 48 hours or 50 km in 24 hours, it is a test of physical endurance requiring mental strength and team spirit while raising funds to fight injustice. This year will mark the 9th edition of the Bengaluru Trailwalker in India. Funds raised through Tarilwalker are used for Oxfam India's projects on education, health, gender, forest rights and discrimination in the six poorest states of India (Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha and Uttar Pradesh).

Oxfam Trailwalker is a growing global phenomenon - the event is currently being held in 17 splendid locations across 9 different countries. It is also an environmentally sustainable event. Rigorous impact assessments are done to ensure that the event is sustainable and the waste generated during the event is effectively managed.
