BP drugs being recalled over cancer worry

The pills were found to contain organic chemicals N-nitrosodiethylamine which is classified as a porbable human carcinogen.

Hyderabad: Blood pressure tablets irbesartan is being recalled by the United States Food and Drug Administration as it was found to be contaminated and could cause cancer.

The pills were found to contain organic chemicals N-nitrosodiethylamine which is classified as a porbable human carcinogen.

Dr K.K. Aggarwal, senior cardiologist explained, “The drug was available in 75 mg, 150 mg and 300 mg. It is being now recalled due to these findings. The use has been minimum as we have alternative drugs to control blood pressure.”

The blood pressure drugs are now being reviewed every now and then as they need to be evaluated for side-effects and also adverse reactions. For this reason, people who are on anti-hypertensive drugs are asked to get their drugs regime altered as the prolonged use of one medicine can cause a range of side-effects.
