Bengaluru: Doctors shut shop, warn it'll worsen

\"If the government does not give in, we may launch an indefinite strike next week,\" warned state secretary of IMA, Dr B Veeranna.

Bengaluru: People relying on private health care across the state had to go without treatment on Friday as over 45,000 private hospitals and clinics shut down their outpatient departments in response to the strike by doctors against the government's attempt to regulate their charges.

While Chief Minister Siddaramaiah called the protest unreasonable when discussions were still underway on the amendments to the Karnataka Private Medical Establishments Act, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) warned it would intensify its agitation if the government remained cold to its demands. "If the government does not give in, we may launch an indefinite strike next week," warned state secretary of IMA, Dr B Veeranna.
