The inventor of this new drink, Mythreyi, was happy with the good response from people on the first day of the launch. “This is a new experiment in the region. People like the drink. It has been launched today and will be available in shops shortly,” Mythreyi told DC.

The name, Jaffe is a combination of two words- Jackfruit and Coffee. “I have heard that there are similar products in other places but I have not heard of this in our region. I started trying this about two months ago and finally struck on the correct time to roast the jackfruit seed and obtain the right flavour,” she said. Mythreyi, markets five types of squashes and ‘kashaya’ powder under the brand name, Archeez Kitchen.

“The product is purely organic and is free from caffeine. There is no added artificial colour, flavour or preservatives. I am still working on the drink to make it tastier and better,” she added.

“It is good to see people taking interest in growing and preparing various products out of jackfruit. Earlier only traditional products were prepared from jackfruit. But today we can see so many products including coffee being prepared. Even the packing and labeling of the products like chips have changed. This is indeed a good trend,” agricultural writer Na Karantha Peraje, said.

The Mela also saw people selling various types of jackfruit products right from ‘pappad,’ to sweets and chips. The ‘joni bella,’ or liquid jaggery and pickle of ‘appe midi,’ prepared by Kadamba Marketing Co-operative of Srirsi were the other two main attractions. Both the products were sold out within two hours!
