Physical shaking relaxes mind

Experts ask people to do what they like to release energy from body.

Hyderabad: Physical response to stress by offloading it is not possible in modern life, and the signals of the body are often not understood. Indeed, they are simply brushed aside for lack of time.

While methods of calming down exist, these may not necessarily be the right process for all. Experts suggest that calming up in terms of burning stress is also found to work for people who feel relaxed.

Calming up or getting worked up is a base reaction to stress. This is often found in children who do not mask their feelings.

If they do not like certain toys or foods, they wail, cry, bite or get into a rage. The ability to remove stress from the body or release energy is one way of dealing with it.

Dr Surendra M., senior psychiatrist, explained, “Dealing with stress is different for every person. We ask people to keep calm so that the brain can relax and send signals to the body, which will in turn, help it relax. But at the sub-conscious level, many are not able to relax or calm down, and hence the effect is not seen as required.”

He said those who suffer from recurrent and chronic stress problems are recommended trauma release exercises.

“In this, the physical body is calmed where the muscle groups are relaxed and it is found to help. This is only for those suffering from severe stress,” Dr Surendra said.

Physical shaking is found to relax the muscle groups, thereby relieving the mind and body and leading to relaxation.

Studies have shown that these induced tremors or physical shaking of the body leads to more frequent positive emotions and gives greater confidence to deal with severe stressful situations.

Working oneself up or calming down with a negative emotion like watching a horror film, screaming into a pillow, kickboxing or high-intense energy exercise also helps to release energy that is bottles up within.

Psychology processor Dr G. Padmaja said, “To release energy from the body we ask people to do what they like. Hence each individual choice can be different. They have to use that energy which will relax them. This would mean that some people are relaxed when they go for long walks or work out in the gym or play an activity. Hence to calm down does not necessarily mean sitting at one place. It can also be an intense energy releasing activity whose end result is to relax the body.”

Research shows that in high-energy release, neuro-transmitters in the brain are activated and hormones released producing a calming down effect on the body.
