Don't try this at home
From pot-bellied to washboard abs in three months — Aamir Khan’s radical weight loss is the talk of the town and the internet is going abuzz with it. While it can be truly inspiring for those aiming to lose weight, experts say you must hold your horses as it is not advisable for everyone. Especially those who have never worked out before.
With the New Year round the corner, people are scampering around in their last attempts to ditch the fat and get fit. But here’s what you need to know before you plan to follow the perfectionist Khan.
Aamir’s weight gain-loss didn’t just happen
“Imagine, a ready sculpture and I just add more clay to it. I know where the clay is added and it becomes easier to take it out as well. This is exactly the case with Aamir,” says fitness trainer Kunal Gir.
“He already had a fit body and he just added fat to it for the role. But don’t forget that he has been working out for years now and so his body already has high mass muscle, that makes it easier to lose it,” explains celebrity trainer Kunal Gir.
Kuldep Sethi, celebrity fitness expert says that losing weight within a short span of time is very dangerous. “In cases where they over-work the body, the body gets into a catabolic state where the muscle starts breaking down instead of the fat. This means the person will feel more tired, their skin will look dull and they won’t be energetic,” explains Sethi, which is why he advises that people should always start slowly when it comes to getting fitter.
Steroids don’t give you muscles
There have also been reports that say that Aamir couldn’t have achieved the look without steroids. Sethi says, “Whenever a fit body comes in the news people start doubting that person. Steroids are not the only way to get fit, one can do that with a healthy diet too.”
Gir adds that even steroids taken under supervision won’t give you muscles. “When working out, the body gets worn out. Steroids help the body recover faster so that we get over the soreness and are able to work out more. So even if Aamir did take steroids, he had to continue working out to achieve this look.”
No shortcut formula
So if you’re planning to go on a crash diet to get in shape for the New Year or take up a crazy workout schedule you should probably give it a miss. “Aamir Khan is paid to look the way he does. So he obviously has lots of time to get fit and work out, and has the best nutritionist team too. However, a normal person who has an eight to five job has to work out in a sensible manner so that they do not get tired especially those who are a little older,” explains Sethi.
Gir adds, “People tend to go on crazy diets and lose weight, but once they achieve that, they lose focus. So they needs to focus more on sustaining the weight loss and getting fitter.”
