3-month-old babies are learning to stand in Iceland

A new kind of swimming class shows babies are capable of more than previously thought.

Babies as young as three-months-old are able to stand on their own to feet at a 12-week swimming course in Iceland.

The class is run by Snorri Magnusson who teaches them to stand on his hand, the NY Daily News reported. He holds the class twice a week.

In one of the groups, 11 out of 12 babies were able to stand for close to 15 seconds. The one that couldn't stand for that long stood for eight seconds.

"The results are sensational compared to what we normally expect of children at this age," Sigmundsson is quoted as saying by the NY Daily News. "Children can do more than we think."

Babies, according to research don't forget what they are learning and are able to perfect it with practise.

Previous studies have also shown that children can begin to stand without help at nine months.
