New smart wardrobe can help dementia patients get dressed independently

A smart dresser is one device which is helping people with dementia pick their own clothes.

Life can be difficult for people suffering from dementia as day to day tasks can be a struggle. While diagnosis is important, there is also a need for enabling patients of the disorder to be independent.

An innovative idea is the key to helping patients who face such issues and something as simple as a wardrobe can make a difference. A smart dresser is one device which is helping people with dementia pick their own clothes.

The five-drawer dresser has a tablet, camera and motion sensors as one piece of clothing per drawer is organised according to the person’s dressing preference. This can give caregivers respite while ensuring dignity and independence of the patients.

Although dressing is a simple activity we do every day, the same is a challenge for people with dementia and other neurodegenerative disorders.
