Prince Harry's fiancé Meghan Markle is known for her healthy lifestyle. Back in 2015, Markle revealed to The Chalkboard her go-to smoothie, which packed with nutrition.

Nutritionist Rhiannon Lambert shares a break down of the smoothie and breaks down each ingredient’s healthy benefits in a report by the Independent.

1 Protein powder

It keeps you feeling full for longer and helps maintain muscle mass. Markle’s choice of powder at the time was Clean Cleanse vanilla. Lambert , however, warns people to beware of brands that use words like "cleanse" to describe their products. It is important to note protein powder is a supplement to your diet not a meal replacement.

2. Frozen blueberries

Blueberries are rich in antioxidants, low in sugar and high in fibre. They are also full of potassium, folate, vitamin C and vitamin B6. It keeps cellular function healthy.

3. Cinnamom

A generous serving of cinnamon has an impact on the hormone insulin and helps transport blood sugar into cells from the bloodstream.

4. Chia seeds

These seeds are a very good source of omega-3 fatty acids, fibre, iron, calcium and antioxidants.

5. Half a cup of almond milk

Not all dairy-free alternatives to cow’s milk are wholesome. However, almond milk is full of nutrition, which includes B12 and calcium. A study published in the Journal of Food Science and Technology revealed that soy milk is the best plant-based substitute.

6. A cup worth of coconut water

It is important to stay hydrated throughout the day. That is why you should add water or coconut water.

When creating a smoothie you would like, Lambert recommends choosing ingredients that have protein, healthy fats, fibre and complex carbs.
