Ailments like tumours can make life an ordeal for people, thankfully medical science has developed life-saving procedures to help people tackle them. While a lot of people have tumours surgically removed, sometimes the size and impact can leave people astonished.
57-year-old Sonia Lopez from Costa Rica had been putting off an operation to remove a tumour from her ovaries for the past seven years. But she was forced to go ahead when it grew to cover 80 percent of her abdomen and crushed her intestines.
When doctors finally performed the surgery, the removed a massive 34 kg tumour which even threatened to cause a heart attack. The woman set a world record with such a huge tumour and is now recovering as she awaits results that can tell if the growth is cancerous in nature.
The surgeon said that such large tumours are common among women as compared to men since their bodies are designed to carry more weight in the abdomen.
