Sam of all things caring

This young entrepreneur goes from fashion to care giving with this new space for cancer rehab.

She’s an angel in disguise sharing her wisdom and reveling in the role of a care giver. Besides turning to food and exercise, Samara Mahindra believes that health begins inside.

This dynamic entrepreneur has set foot on a new journey of an integrative approach to healing with Carer-cancer recovery and rehabilitation at a young age of 29.

After a stint with her fashion label Turquoise & Gold (alongwith her sister Dimple Varma), she is now offering rehab to help cancer patients make healthy lifestyle changes.

Carer weans a patient off medical care into a healthier lifestyle by providing a holistic approach to healing after treatment.

After schooling in Bengaluru, Samara went to UK for a business administration course and moved to Australia for further studies, but she confesses to have always had an inclination towards fitness and movement.

She shares, “My mother was diagnosed with cancer and was given a prognosis of six months, but she fought on for over six years. We were care givers and I put my life back on hold. Although she was getting medical care, we didn’t know what to do post the medical care. After she passed away, I decided to stop working on the fashion label and moved to New York for a course in fitness training to become a cancer exercise specialist. I learnt that mind body therapies and nutrition were a big part of healing when I became a holistic health coach and India doesn’t have anything like this. I moved back to Bengaluru and worked at a leading hospital to understand the system here and found that there is gap in post cancer treatment. That’s when I devised a Carer programme where they have easy access to the best specialists in their homes and that’s why I set an online platform, where they can have access to information and therapies through written content, audio clips, informative content videos, practice video tutorials and guides created for those just out of treatment.”

Doesn’t the certified cancer exercise specialist, holistic health coach and personal fitness trainer feel she’s missing out on all the fun other girls her age are having, while she’s spending sleepless nights? She reiterates, “I’ve lived my life on my terms and have travelled to UK, US, Australia and Singapore, but as clichéd as it may sound, this is the kind of subject that enriches me. I have a balanced life and maintain my social life to some degree and love to travel whenever I can. I come from a big Punjabi family so apart from travel, food is also a major part of our lives.”
