Food stains on your furniture can be a total nightmare. Sometimes trying to get it off can leave a bigger stain, make it worse or damage the area on the item you use every day.
If you are having trouble getting rid of the stain or just want to be prepared for it, then tips by cleaning expert Melissa Maker just may help you.
Maker, the author of Clean My Space, shared her suggestions in The Kitchn. These tips will help no matter what your couch is made from.
1. Linen/ cotton: Either use a stain remover or make your own. All you need is a tablespoon of white vinegar mixed with two thirds of a cup of rubbing alcohol. With a sponge dab it on the stain. Then dry it out with a clean cloth to absorb the liquid and repeat this a few times.
2. Untreated leather: Add a few sprinkles of baking powder, cornflour or cornstarch on the area that is stained and leave it for 15 minutes. Then vacuum the stain with the fabric brush attachment.
3. Finished or coated leather: Take a clean cloth or paper towel to put on the stain before you wipe it with a damp microfiber cloth. If there is still a stain use a leather cleaner or conditioner product.
4. Microfiber: Use a water-based cleaning solution to remove the stain if there is a 'W' on the label. For an ‘S' label' dab alcohol or vodka on the area. You can also use a toothbrush to break up the stain to remove it easily....
