TATA AIG’s Retail Health Insurance Grows 3X in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh

With over 82,000 lives covered, the insurer expands reach across 51 districts and launches affordable plans to tackle rising medical costs.

TATA AIG General Insurance Company Limited has recorded over threefold growth in its retail health portfolio across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh in the past year, providing health cover to more than 82,000 lives. This surge reflects the rising demand for reliable insurance in southern markets where health insurance penetration remains below the national average.

The company has built a strong footprint across 51 districts in the region, with key branches in Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Warangal, Karimnagar, and Nellore. Its extensive network of 1,600+ hospitals and 14,500 advisors supports improved access to healthcare and creates job opportunities in semi-urban and rural areas.

To cater to the growing healthcare needs, TATA AIG recently launched MediCare Select, a flexible and affordable health insurance plan. With medical inflation in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh touching 16%—higher than the national average of 13%—the product aims to address rising treatment costs.

MediCare Select offers coverage for all age groups with no entry limit and includes features such as a lifelong Young Family Discount and a 7.5% salary discount. This makes it suitable for diverse income groups and life stages.

Health cost trends show a steep rise in treatment expenses in the region. Cancer-related treatment costs have increased by 25%, averaging Rs 1.6 lakh, while coronary artery disease (CAD) expenses surged by 40%. TATA AIG’s highest claim payout in 2025 touched Rs 1 crore in Hyderabad for a CAD case.

Pratik Gupta, Head of Agency, noted plans to raise market share from 3.6% to 5% and add 15,000 distribution partners. Rudraraju Rajagopal, Head – Accident & Health Claims, highlighted that cashless utilization stood at 81% in Telangana and 68% in Andhra Pradesh, indicating improved service delivery.
