Bisi Bengaluru: Dimsum of all flavours

The popular spread draws shoppers visiting MG One, friends and business execs heading for a quick foodgasm.

Foodies love “no-brainers,” every once in a while. A meal set specially for you, plated with delicious flavours and tastes in five courses so you can nibble away with ease. It’s a plethora of Pan Asian food that you order whilst you sit back.

Yauatcha, the tea and dimsum house has been pretty much the hub for Pan Asian, with the most dreamy dimsums, consistency in quality, impeccable service and taste. For all those who would like to put their powers of decision making to rest and not have to pour over too many choices, here is a portioned and balanced w wonder meal, marked by five courses of a sumptuous spread. Called the Taste of Yauatcha, it’s the bevy of offerings by a large team of chefs wokking away in the open kitchen. Their new Yum Cha dimsum meal is also quite the seller in case you can’t last through five courses.

The popular spread draws shoppers visiting MG One, friends and business execs heading for a quick foodgasm. “Lunch is when you have the highest number of corporate out for a quick meal. Keeping that in mind, we designed the menu for a wholesome meal that can be served and consumed fairly quickly. Despite being a set meal, we offer selections of dimsums, mains and desserts. We have always been known for our dimsums and that is why we have kept a good selection to choose from, it’s my favourite too,” explains Chef Pradeep Gomes- Unit Head Chef (Yauatcha Bangalore).

Soups, salad, dimsum, stir fries, greens, noodles, rice, desserts — a slew of plates come by the table. Both the vegetarian and non-vegetarian offerings are delightful. What we particularly loved was the ease with which your order was taken and disposed of, with enough time for conversation and chit chat… course by course, the tummy smiled beatifically.

And it is a lot for even one person. We’re not sure if you can share though! We ordered the non-vegetarian meal which began with a simple but delicious hot and sour chicken soup. We loved the consistency and the slivers of crunch with shredded chicken, lipsmackingly good, light and easy. A warning here, if you are a small eater, best you keep that space for the flurry that follows, all piping hot, aromatic and totally worth your while. We liked the freshness and crunch of the mixed lettuce with lotus root salad, a tangy dressing, though we would have loved more lotus root… as a fight ensued to grab the few that were there!
In the dimsums, we chose spicy hargau and the chef’s special from four options on their menu. Steaming and delectable, we dribbled enough chilli sauce and gobbled away. Fresh, succulent prawn and an interesting chicken parcel came our way. The vegetarian options have our faves, the truffle and English carrot and the vegetable crystal dumpling too.

A selection of three stir fries were offered with the mains, in both the vegetarian and non vegetarian options. We chose the Heyong lamb and steamed snapper in a spicy, blackbean sauce. The lamb was succulent, tender and flavourful, with a stocky gravy that paired itself beautifully with our noodles. We also loved the sweet and spice of the blackbean sauce, with the delicate flakey fish. We also devoured, with great relish, a portion of Chinese greens. You can also order noodles or rice, we had both, with the chicken fried rice simplistic. The other diner ordered Ho Fan Noodles.

There was a bit too much happening with it, it was like a pad thai that went over the top… tasty, but we would have definitely preferred more outstanding flavours and ingredients. The meal is sumptuous and we small eaters left a few dimsums behind, reluctant but helpless. We did wish there was the pepper beef also in the offerings, though.

For dessert, you can choose from a range of ice creams, sorbets and macaroons. We chose the caramel, lychee and toffee icecream with a mango sorbet (two scoops). Light, flavourful and the perfect end to a delectable meal, all washed down with cups of Chinese tea, to do justice to the five courses.

Irresistible, quick and with a taste trail to remember – Yauatcha has maintained its impeccable standards in a scene where a tidal wave of new places are opening pell mell, while older ones rapidly lose out on consistency. Here, Yauatcha stands out and the chain that was given a Michelin star within a year of opening in London’s Soho, continues to uphold its spirit. “We maintain a high standard of food and services at Yauatcha through periodic checks, audits and shelf-life standardisation,” adds chef Gomes.

The dimsums, quite rightly cannot be parcelled to keep their quality, but if the meal is too much, you can take the left overs to go. The price point is also great for the five courses on offer. We will be back for more, and will also dimsum away with its Yum Cha menu soon… you can too!
