Moet Hennessey's winery in the country will focus on satisfying the Indian palate rather than catering to international tastes.

It might already be dubbed India’s Napa Valley, but Nashik only recently got its best landmark in the form of Moet Hennessey’s newly-launched winery — only its sixth outside of France. A big and symbolic step — not just for the international winemaker, but also for the Indian wine scene, the launch of this winery marks a validation for the notion that it is indeed possible and even viable to make internationally acclaimed, world class wine in India.

It’s two flagship brands Chandon Brut and Brut Rose have been available in the market ever since late-2013, but what makes this step important is that it is being seen as the first step towards a ‘make-in-India’ push for the international wine industry. According to a release, Moet Hennessey’s winery in the country will focus on satisfying the Indian palate rather than catering to international tastes and expand it’s range more. With a legacy and history of bringing quality wine behind them, it’s hard to wait for what the global player in wines will conjure up for the Indian connoissuer. We’ll find out soon enough.
