Nadan at heart
Actor Sunu Lakshmi has travelled to many states and regions but home is where her heart is, especially with respect to food. Though she loves variety and has the occasional Western or Eastern fare, it is the nadan food of Kerala that she loves the best. She says, “Give me rice, curd and pickle along with the salted chilli kondattam, I will be the happiest person on earth. There are times I have to travel out of state for shoots and then the craving to have rice and curd hits me so bad that the moment I am in Kerala, I immediately hunt for a place serving nadan food and stop the car there .”
Admitting to not being a fussy eater, Sunu Lakshmi reveals an interesting event, “Since my mother is the one accompanying me to the sets and as she is diabetic, she has to have her food on time. I travel to my locations by car and my mother carries an induction cooker and some rice with her so that I too can have rice. By now, most of the unit members are aware of this. There is nothing as healthy as homemade food.”
Sunu Lakshmi is also a good cook; thanks to her mother, who is an expert. Ghee rice and beef, biriyani, potato and egg curry are her areas of expertise. She says, “When I am home, most of my friends from Chennai who are in Kerala drop in to have food. I have two sisters, both of them cook well. Whenever there is a function at home or at any relative’s place, we end up doing the catering part.”
