Kollam: To provide “safe food” to the public, farmers of Kulasekharapuram, the first "complete organic" panchayat, will take fresh vegetables to the public on a modern mobile store.

It will sell garden fresh ethnic vegetables, and the stocks will not be kept after 24 hours.

The vegetables cultivated on 25 hectors under good agricultural practices (GAP) the agriculture department initiated will be its primary products.

“The department aims to start a chain of such mobile outlets soon to popularise safe consumption," Kulasekharapuram agriculture officer V.R. Binesh said.

“The shop set up along the NH targets commuters and local people as potential customers. New stores will come up in areas having more public access. The next will be Karunagappally. The ethnic vegetables are of much different in taste than the hybrid varieties brought from neighbouring states.”

They will also purchase from farmers on spot payment. The products available at the shop include ethnic varieties of bitter gourd, snake gourd, ladies finger, brinjal, and green chillies.
