Vegan wines boom hits UK

The UK's Co-op retailer has expressed its plan to expand its current range of vegan wines to 100 labels in the course of the year.

With the vegan trend catching up across the globe, several wine companies have also decided to jump on the bandwagon. According to the Vegan Society, there are 542,000 people in the UK alone who follow this diet — quite a leap from the 150,000 who followed it a decade ago. And the country’s wine business has picked up this cue.

The UK’s Co-op retailer has expressed its plan to expand its current range of vegan wines to 100 labels in the course of the year. They have even asked their suppliers to “make their wines vegan when they can”.

Wine experts have expressed that this trend can mean two possibilities — one that there will be a lot of debate about which wines make the vegan grade. And the other is that it could spark a debate around how much information about the components of a wine should be disclosed on the label. Well, let’s wait and watch!
