The art of the super cocktail

Give your LIITs a rest. Blending two classic drinks to make a potent cocktail is on the rise.

You can never go wrong with the tried and tested classic cocktails. But when you blend two classics together, two things can happen — it will result in something that you will be highly impressed, or just equally appalled with. It all began when the Coronarita (a cocktail made from beer and margarita) started gaining popularity. Alcohol enthusiasts and mixologists started experimenting and blending other classic drinks to understand what magical drink it would result in. The Coronarita was a drink that worked and has remained evergreen since its conception.

The art of blending cocktails requires that you be mindful of the two classic cocktails that you are mixing. You cannot pick two classics that are completely different. For example, you could, however mix a daiquiri and a punch since the bases (rum) are the same.

The flavours of the drink too need to be kept in mind. Thinking outside the box is key when mixing two cocktail. A champagne punch and a pina colada are something that you would never expect to work together, but you will be surprised as to how well the flavours complement each other. The Pina Colada Champagne punch would make the perfect Sunday brunch drink if you’re looking to retire the mimosas. You could mix a Blue Lagoon and a Mojito that gives you something very tasteful as the flavours of lemon, mint, rum and curacao work fantastically well together. Another blended drink that is potent and works really well is a cranberry vodka mixed with a Moscow mule.

Another thing to keep in mind when mixing drinks is the alcohol quantity. Make sure you don’t overdo the alcohol as it can overpower the drink. You want to have your patrons and guests sober enough to be able to enjoy your creations. For those ordering a blend of two cocktails, they have to be responsible as these drinks have a higher quantity of alcohol and mixing two spirits can result in a nasty hangover. The idea while creating, mixing and blending two drinks is to create an experience for the drinker that cannot be compared. So the next time you have a fickle-minded guest who cannot decide between two drinks, present him with a blend of the two.
