Drink from a Levitating CUP
For those who want their tipple to be as ‘high’ as them, there’s a crowdfunded campaign for a gravity-defying drinkware, which makes your glass levitate. The glassware — christened Levitating CUP by its designer Joel Paglione — has the cups floating in mid air, even as people carry it from one room to the other.
The secret behind the magical nature of the glasses is electromagnetic suspension, which allows the cups to float in mid air, but only when they’re placed above the special metallic bases. The system uses magnets and electrical fields to allow the specially made base and glass to put on a gravity defying show, letting them remain uninterrupted in that position, indefinitely.
The cup base comes in two varieties — wired and wireless. The wired version requires the base to be plugged into a power outlet to put on a show. The wireless version can be used portably, once it is charged, making it a great idea for restaurants.
Chicago-based Joel has put the contraption on Kickstarter, in hopes that it would raise $50,000 for production. With a week to go, Levitating CUP has already gone past the goal and will start shipping to backers in October.
