The hottest cocktail this season: Frose
Rosé wine is finally having its time in the sun as frozen rosé wine or ‘frosé’. The cocktail is a blend of pink wine with lemon juice and sugar. Later, it is popped into the freezer for a good six hours. The result is rosé wine with an icy consistency that can be poured into a giant glass. Add a mint, or a slice of lime to serve.
The alcoholic slushie originated at Bar Primi in New York where the general manager was keen on creating a drink that was suitable for hot afternoons. Frosé, which has gone on to become their top-selling drink, adds vermouth and pureed strawberries to make it even sweeter. These blush-pink slushies are quickly becoming a cocktail trend, since gaining traction on the Internet.
Wine experts say that those looking to recreate the drink at home could opt for a full-bodied rosé since the drink may lose its colour during the freezing process. Fruits and other spirits can also be fortified to make a host of party-friendly wine cocktails.
