Beer designed for your DNA

As part of the service, connoisseurs will have their DNA analysed, including a saliva sample by 23andMe, a genetics company.

While everyone has their favourite beers, wouldn’t it be amazing to have ale crafted just to suit your body? London’s Meantime Brewery has come up with a service to create beer specifically tailored to one’s DNA-based taste and preferences.

The service and comes at a hefty price of £25,000. The method had been tested out first by the service’s brewmaster, Ciaran Giblin, who crafted his own beer — a double IPA — based on his DNA flavour profile.

As part of the service, connoisseurs will have their DNA analysed, including a saliva sample by 23andMe, a genetics company. The results will lay bare personal preferences and leanings towards sweet and bitter notes in beer. A one-on-one consultation with Ciaran then will help them decide on the style of brew too. For the amount, customers will receive 12 hectolitres — or about 2,000 pints — of their personal brew, as well as enrolment in a beer making course titled The Knowledge.
