Ruling the ramp in 2016
They have already walked the ramp for celebrated designers like Sabyasachi Mukherji, Neeta Lulla, Archana Kochhar, Manish Malhotra and Wendell Rodricks. These models, mostly fresh faces, have been ruling the ramp with their oomph this year and they hope to make some more noise in 2017.
From walking the ramp for top designers to looking for opportunities at international runaways and in Tollywood, these seven models from the city ruled the year 2016 and are aiming for more in the coming year.
Harathi Honey:
She can carry off both Indian and Western wear with sass. She made it to the top hoardings in the city and has modelled for Shantanu and Nikhil, Nikhil Thampi and Neeta Lulla among others. “The year 2016 has been quite busy and a successful for me. It has given me a good platform and I now want to venture into the modelling industry in the US,” she says.
Goal for 2017: “Is to make it to the International level,” says Honey.
Krutika Singh Rathore:
While pursuing Masters in Psychology from St Francis College for Women, she spends her weekends modelling. “Walking for Neeta Lulla, Hamstech and being the face of popular brands has made the year exceptional for me. I’ve also got a few offers in Tollywood, but I want to take it slow,” says Krutika.
Goal for 2017: “As soon as I’m done with masters, I want to pursue full-time modelling,” she adds.
Swetha Jadhav:
Her journey into the industry began at the Deccan Chronicle office when she took part in the Miss Fresh Face contest. “I was the runner up and since then I’ve established my career in modelling. The year 2016 has been the best: I was a part of the Lakme Fashion Week and Wedding Vows among others. I’ve been the face for popular brands — I’m on two huge hoardings. I’ve acted in Tollywood movies like Premisthe Poye Kalam and Inka Yemi Anukoledu. Walking for Sabyasachi Mukherji has been a dream come true,” says the 25-year-old.
Goal for 2017: “I hope to be on the cover of a magazine. I’m also looking forward to signing good scripts in Tollywood and to work with Mahesh Babu!”
Deepa Devendra:
Originally a Goan, she has been living in Hyderabad for a long time. She not only worked with Sabyasachi Mukherji, Archana Kochhar and Neeta Lulla, but has also been a part of music videos that have been aired on Vh1 and MTV. She is currently working in a Tollywood movie. “I’m a professional dancer and I was told to take up modelling. I never liked a monotonous job and love modelling. 2016 has been brilliant as I walked for renowned designers and got an offer to work with the rapper Bohemia,” says Deepa.
Goal for 2017: “Is to enter Bollywood,” says the 23-year-old.
Srishti Vyakaranam:
This new modelling sensation has already modelled for Shantanu and Nikhil and Karan Malhotra. She hit the runway at the Lakme Fashion Week and was in the top 8 at Miss Asia Pacific International 2016. “I quit my job and decided to pursue modelling. It has been the best year in my life. I took part in Miss Diva, Campus Princess and Miss Asia Pacific International contests,” says the 24-year-old.
Goal for 2017: “To get into Tollywood. There are not many Telugus in the industry and I want to change that,” she adds.
Sharon Rose:
Her beautiful, dusky skin and toned body sets her apart from others. She has walked for Neeta Lulla, Wendell Rodricks, Shravan Kumar, Ritu Kumar, Aslam Khan, Archana Kochhar and the list goes on! “I entered the industry in 2015 and 2016 has been the most memorable year. I made it to top-12 in the Miss India pageant and won Max Fashion Icon 2016 Vizag. Just in a year, I walked for top designers and on runways like Kerala Fashion Week and Rajasthan Fashion Week,” says the 21-year-old.
Goal for 2017: “I want to hit the International runaway as they are more open to dusky models. My inspiration is Rihanna,” she adds.
Apoorva Rao:
She is model and also the co-founder of FitMeals. “The year 2016 has been beautiful as I got to walk for almost all the fashion shows in the city. The best experience was working with Anushree Reddy. Modelling is a beautiful industry, there’s nothing wrong with it as it all depends on an individual,” says the 23-year-old.
Goal for 2017: “My dream is to walk for Sabyasachi Mukherji,” she smiles.
