Its raining Neon this season!

This trend was big last year and continues to be popular this year too. Choose these bright shades to brighten up a gloomy day.

Like it or not, but celebrities play a significant role in setting “trend goals” for Indian fashion lovers. As monsoon has hit the bay, Bollywood trendsetters like Karan Johar, Sara Ali Khan, Ananya Panday, and Deepika Padukone are busy showing off their neon fascination with interesting pop colours. And, not just the cool B-town homies but even Indian designers love to experiment with the vivid colour palette of fluorescent pink, orange, green, yellow and blue to highlight a bubbly personality.

Neon detailing on the clothes and accessories can be the “Xtra” effect you need to brighten up a dull, gloomy rainy day as these colours are perfect to uplift anyone’s mood. Replace your little black dress with a little colourful dress this season to stand out in the crowd, recommends designer Naina Jain, as she adds, “Neons are the best colours to keep the gloom away. Stick to hassle-free silhouettes, clean lines and go for bold solid colours with little or no print detail. Go for sheer fabrics that are lightweight and easy to handle. Organza is our suggestion for the season, as their natural sheerness and luminosity enhances when dyed in neon colours. Pair your organza neon saris with a Banarasi bandana to create a modern look for festive occasions.”

It’s hard not to notice a bright colour on the street. Highlight your confidence in the rainy season with accents of neon and pair them with neutrals to stand out. Designer Rachit Maskara suggests millennial fashionistas to step out in an experimental yet classy range of neon denim wear. He says, “For monsoon, you can play with eye-catching colours, crazy silhouettes that are accentuated with neon and radium details. But make sure not to over-do it to avoid looking like you just transported from the 80s. Smart and minimal is the way to go. Be bold and confident with a statement piece like a neon blazer with boyfriend jeans or white jeans. Pair a neon belt with distressed jeans, a white tank top and a blazer or even complete denim look with a denim jacket. You can always get a complete neon look with a bright colourful dress.”

While puddle soaked sneakers and potholes are recurring nightmares, a lot of people lose interest in dressing and going out of their houses. Choosing the right monsoon clothing and colours make a huge difference to your monsoon personality, mentions Kunal Duhar, head designer at a fashion label. The designer advices, “Avoid wearing light colours like white, light blue, beige because they become transparent. Instead, flaunt bright colours like red, green, blue, indigo, yellow, shades of orange, aquamarine, fuchsia pink. Wear shorter length bottoms like shorts, skirts, three fourth pants or ankle length chinos for men. For women, short dresses, rompers, and knee-length maxi dresses are an easy options to throw on without having to think much.”

To make the most of monsoon fashion, opt for the fabrics that can easily dry out, doesn’t become transparent in the rain and doesn’t stick to your body in humidity. “Prefer hemp, cotton, linen and synthetic fabrics. Avoid silk and chiffon. While choosing neon footwear, pick out flip flops, rain boots and PU leather shoes that are water resistant. Pair your look with pop coloured trendy accessories like bright sunglasses and umbrellas to brave the unexpected weather change,” sums up Kunal Duhar.
