Hyderabad chose me: Uffe Frank

Danish designer Uffe Frank is launching his eponymous collection in the city.

Danish designer Uffe Frank, known for creating the iconic wedding dress for Crown Princess Mary of Denmark in 2004, is in the city to showcase his collection of clothes at the Absolute Life Style Exhibition. Giving us a glimpse into how his journey into the fashion world began, Uffe says, “I grew up with four sisters, so it has been easy for me to understand women. I always knew what women want and what they don’t, in terms of style.”

This understanding encouraged him to join a design school in Denmark and later the Royal College of Art in London. He eventually started working with design houses in Europe. This is Frank’s first sale in India and he has a reason to be here. “India is known for its rich culture and heritage and I absolutely love Indian fashion. I saw a lot more opportunities in Hyderabad when compared to other cities. Actually, it was Hyderabad that chose me,” he says, adding, “I spent 25 years in Italy and feel there are many common things between the two countries.”

Frank has major plans for Indian market. He also wants to work with Bollywood and Tollywood, and his personal favourite is Deepika Padukone! “I love how women in India dress up. I would like to know more about their taste and start working on my new concepts. I’m using silk, cotton and linen to bring out exciting designs,” he says. On Hyderabad, he adds, “I haven’t explored the city much but I’ve read about its heritage. I would like to visit all the forts and tombs. And yes, Hyderabadi biriyani was amazing.”
