Something cool in the hood'
As winters arrive, we all want to get cozy in our jumpers and warm sweaters. But, here’s a trend that has emerged and been adopted by many celebs like Amitabh Bachchan, Rani Mukherjee, Alia Bhatt, Shahrukh Khan and even Ranbir Kapoor. We have spotted these celebs wearing hoodies and pairing it up with their outfits, whether they are chilling out on a beach, or heading to the airport. The celebs love their hoodies. We speak to young working designers and stylists from the city and see what they have to say about this fashion trend.
The 23-year-old young designer, Khushboo Kaur feels “Hoodies as a silhouette is widely accepted by all kinds of market. It includes high-end brands as well as the mass market! We can’t say that wearing hoodies is a trend. The silhouette is always there in fashion. I believe that the silhouette is somehow more popular in winter season because of its utility.” But, these hoodies have amazing new ways to put together with different outfits. We spotted this new artiste, Alessia Cara wearing a dress at the American Music Awards 2017 that came with an attached hoodie. It’s quite a style statement for an award show, right?
How, do we pair these hoodies, though? And is there an end to this fashion? These fashion experts give us more deets! “This trend is quite on the go right now, but might just fade away with time as new fashion trends keep coming in,” Ankit Kalija from NIFT who works under a designer tells us. While a stylist at Amazon, Mercy Jungi feels that, “When you think about hoodies you instantly think street style. Come winter, hoodie is one item of clothing that’s almost everyone’s favourite style stable because it is comfy and at the same time it is effortlessly chic.”
She briefs us on how to pair up the hoodies and adds, “There are so many ways to style the hoodie. You can pair it up with a track pant and wear heels to add that pop. Go oversized and pull off a Rihanna. Or keep it cute with a bomber and denim. Dress it up or down with a dress and some bad ass boots.” Another 20-year-old Bengaluru based textile designer, Arundhati who gives us her view on hoodies says that “The trend is legit! Basically, the entire thing is a part of what we call the ‘Athleisure’ movement.” “I feel definitely hoodies will be in fashion. It may not sustain the whole year but as the winters pop in at the end of every year the hoodies will be in trend again in a different style may be,” she concludes.
