You’ve got to hand it to Bollywood star Kareena Kapoor Khan. She has brought pregnancy back in vogue again. Gone are the days when mammas-to-be cloaked themselves in hideous attires resembling tents (which loudly spelt PREGNANT). Today, an uber chic Bebo (as she is called) sports trendy designer outfits that gently flaunt her burgeoning baby bump.
Bebo has not let pregnancy put a full-stop to her lifestyle. She is clearly soaking in the maternal glow, even as she moves about, hopping from private lunches to glam events with equal ease, dispelling the myth that pregnant women should always take it easy.
Not all women may be blessed with such a breezy pregnancy, sometimes medical compulsions may lead to enforced bed rest— like it has in the case of actor Shahid Kapur’s wife, Mira.
Despite that, the pretty young lady (who is all set to deliver her baby next month) is spotted happily posing for selfies with her hubby, right from the confines of their home.
Today women don’t shy away from flaunting their tummies even in their advanced stage and are literally welcoming motherhood with a bang.
Perhaps our female celebrities are following in the footsteps of their Western counterparts — a Demi Moore posed naked on the cover of Vanity Fair — a sensational cover that stunned the world. That may be a tad too radical by our standards, but our pregnant mammas are creating their own rules. So if actress Blake Lively (pregnant with her second child) can shoot for her film The Shallows in LA, why should Kareena not attempt the same?
In fact, in a landmark decision of sorts, the producers of her Veera Di Shaadi, have incorporated scenes that will show a naturally pregnant Kareena flaunting her belly, as part of her character.
“Whichever role I do, I am not going to camouflage it on screen. I am proud of this phase (being pregnant) that I am in and there is nothing to hide about it. Whichever film I choose to do, you will see me the way I am,” says the feisty star.
And it’s not just a movie, Kareena has shot for a hair commercial, will be walking the ramp at an ongoing fashion week and has even gone on holidays with her hubby, Saif. Clearly, she is the new poster girl for post-modern mothers to be. So being pregnant is no longer an excuse to look dowdy. Our Bollywood divas have paved the way, to make pregnancy a super cool phase.
