Of geometric patterns
Known for their designs that emphasise on silhouettes and detailing, the New Delhi-based designer duo Rohit Gandhi and Rahul Khanna were in the city recently for the Blenders Pride Fashion Tour — Hyderabad. Their latest collection draws inspiration from linear structures and geometrical lines. “Our collection ‘Metallic Maze’ is inspired by geometric pattern, straight line clothing and jig-saw puzzles. We have put everything together,” says Rohit.
At the Amazon India Fashion Week 2016, they used a lot of soft tone colours with minimal designs and afro hair. Speaking of the inspiration behind the collection Rahul says, “Our muse was this girl we saw at the fashion week with afro hair. All our models enjoyed the look with edgy clothes and silver lips, reminiscent of the 1970’s disco era. The collection will be in stores for the summer of 2017.”
The duo has designed for stylish celebrities like Ranveer Singh, Ram Charan and Shruti Hassan. They’ve even made it big outside India, designing for Hollywood celebrities. “The fashion trends followed in Hollywood are pretty same that we follow here in India. So, when we design, we do not have to do an Indian collection or a western collection, we do a global collection,” says Rahul.
“The people of Hyderabad are very fashionable. They don’t follow trends senselessly. We have a lot of clients here, most of who know what suits their body type and we think understanding that is really important,” says Rohit. Although they haven’t had a chance of seeing much of the city, the designer duo confess their liking for Hyderabadi cuisine. “We love the Hyderabadi biryani and shami kababs. Ever since we’ve arrived, we have been over-eating,” they laugh.
